The IEC 61508 standard defines the requirements for suppliers to follow during product development to ensure that their products have a high level of resistance to random hardware and “systematic” design failures. exida is an ANSI accredited certification agency which assesses and certifies that a product has been designed and developed in accordance with the standard. exida follows a rigorous process that verifies the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) of a product’s hardware and software design, as well as its manufacturing and quality control procedures.

ISO 26262 AUTOMOTIVE CERTIFICATION

The proliferation of electronic systems in automobiles has resulted in the creation of new automotive standards to ensure safety. The ISO 26262 standard is an adaption of the more general IEC 61508 functional safety standard. ISO 26262 defines functional safety for automotive equipment and addresses possible hazards caused by the malfunctioning of electronic and electrical systems in passenger vehicles. Components of automotive electrical/electronic systems play a critical role in achieving compliance to the ISO 26262 standard.

He focuses on supporting new and existing customers with their implementation of functional safety standards. He has a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Systems Engineering from University of York and a Master of Science Electromagnetic Compatibility from University of York.
